What will a sarod & tabla actually sound like in a soft rock song about two people parting ways? I had visualized them in ‘I Like Green Eyes Too’, but now we were actually recording them with Shailesh Dani at Dhwani Digital Studio in Nagpur.
Fast forward to the mixing & mastering of the song with Varun Parikh at Bay Owl Studios in Mumbai – after all the arrangements were complete and the song was released, the Vienna Independent Film Festival, Austria gave us a Gold Award for the *Best Original Song*!
If you force an instrument into a track just to sound exotic, it sounds contrived. But when an unusual choice of instruments blend in with the song naturally, it doesn’t matter if the listener is sitting in Mumbai, Shillong, London or Vienna.
Listeners don’t need music explained to them – a good song speaks for itself, and to them.
